fossick

The beta version of www.fossick.com - an independent reviews and ratings website for accommodation in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific - has just been launched. A bespoke development on the Ruby on Rails framework, teabag handled all design and front end development areas of the site for the Fossick team.

Finding accommodation is often a frustrating process, wherever in the world you might be. All too often, it involves long, bewildering lists, a huge array of baffling prices and deceptively flattering marketing materials and photographs produced by the venues themselves.

Once you’ve visited somewhere, of course, you can wax lyrical about the best places to stay or spit tacks at your neighbours boasting about the dinky B&B they found at a quarter of the price. Surely there has to be an easier way. Well, now there is in the Australian and New Zealand region at least! All you need to do it spend five minutes at the end of your holiday sharing your insights with next week’s quests and when you book next time, you’ll benefit from others’ insights too.

Reviews, ratings and opinions are just that, naturally, but they are also invaluable when it comes to making your mind up. With such information to hand, travellers can see if a place honestly lives up to the photos; if it’s off the beaten track, but worth the journey for the great price; or if there’s a reason it’s so cheap in the first place!

Fossick is about creating collective knowledge about our tourists’ own backyard. Written by Australians and New Zealanders, it is a completely independent and unbiased source of tourist information. Fossick does not actually sell any accommodation, so have no ties to any provider, and at Fossick, hotels can’t pay to be at the top of the list, they have to earn their spot from happy customers!

We wish the Fossick team the best of luck with this exciting new project and look forward to working with them in the future as the site grows.
